Are you an aspiring or transitioning organic farmer ready to take your journey to the next level? The Kansas Black Farmers Association (KBFA) invites you to “Grow with KBFA,” part of the USDA Plains Regional Center for Organic Transition program, designed to help Kansas farmers succeed in organic farming.

 Areas Served in Kansas:

  • Western Kansas: Finney, Stanton, Grant, Seward, Ford, Graham, Norton, Gove, Logan
  • Central Kansas: Reno, Ellis, Riley, Geary, Lyons
  • Southern Kansas: Sedgwick, Douglas
  • Northeastern Kansas: Shawnee, Atchison, Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Johnson

Program Overview:

The Kansas Black Farmers Association (KBFA) has initiated a two-year project in collaboration with the USDA Plains Regional Center for Organic Transition (PRCOT). This program aims to support the growth and success of transitioning and aspiring organic farmers in Kansas by focusing on education, outreach, and community building. KBFA’s initiative is designed to offer comprehensive technical and educational services, foster a supportive network, and provide resources to increase the number of certified organic farms in Kansas.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Identify as a BIPOC Farmer: The program is open to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) farmers residing in Kansas.
  2. Farming Status: You should be an aspiring, transitioning, or currently certified organic farmer.
  3. Location: Your farming operation must be located within one of the targeted Kansas counties.
  4. Commitment to Organic Practices: You must be committed to adopting or continuing organic farming practices as part of your agricultural operations.
